“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”- Helen Keller

Individual Therapy
This is a personalised process tailored to your needs. These needs could be to achieve certain goals or to relieve distress.

Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is beneficial at any stage of a relationship and increases satisfaction in a relationship.

Group Therapy
Group & Family therapy offers you a space where you can relate to others who have similar challenges or feelings.
Online Sessions Available
Online Psychotherapy (Teletherapy) is the use of an online medium to provide psychotherapy. In essence, it applies the same psychological principles as face-to-face therapy within an online format. Basically, it is psychotherapy from the convenience and safety of your home. I make use of a secure platform, Zoom. I also lock all sessions to ensure that the session is safe and secure.

About Olwethu Jwili
Clinical Psycologist
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist in a private practice based in Johannesburg. I offer therapy sessions in English, isiXhosa, and Isizulu but I will not be lost if you speak Setswana or Sesotho.
I am passionate about humans and the human condition with all its joys, sorrows, trials, and tribulations. I appreciate the part of my work that gives me the opportunity to use both my head and my heart in unison to
understand the human being in front of me. On the one hand, building an empathic relationship, providing understanding, and experiencing the privilege of joining people in their most painful, darkest, and scariest places but also sharing in their joys and achievements.
On the other hand, analysing their challenges in a logical and systematic manner, linking my scientific understanding of human interaction with the difficulties experienced to construct a holistic understanding.
In My Practice
In my practice, I see adults for both short-term and long-term therapy. I offer individual, couple, family, and group sessions. Unfortunately, I currently do not work with adolescents or children.
I work primarily from a psychodynamic model, which allows for a variety of theoretical models that are typically used by psychodynamic therapists, and these models are tailored to the specific characteristics of the patient with the notion that no one conceptual framework explains all the psychopathology.
A critical aspect of psychodynamic psychotherapy is to use what transpires within the therapeutic relationship as primary data to understand what happens in relationships outside the therapy. This allows me to select an appropriate technique based on the individual needs of each client in order to assist them in exploring how they relate with their environment.

Work Experience
I was trained in Clinical psychology at the University of Witwatersrand, having conducted my undergraduate studies at the University of KwaZulu Natal. I completed my internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (Child Unit) and TARA H. Moross Psychiatric Hospital (Child Unit). After the internship year, I then completed my community service year in the West Rand district, where I worked in the community clinics.
During these training years, I worked with a team of psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and social workers to treat children, adolescents, and adults. In these settings, I worked from a diversity of therapeutic approaches with a wide range of psychological difficulties. I gained extensive experience in individual psychotherapy, family and group therapy as well as parental guidance. I administered various assessments (emotional, intellectual, personality, and neuropsychological) and conducted a group in the oncology children’s ward.
